Comfort-"EZE" - THE PRODUCT

Before we start describing Comfort- "EZE", we should talk about stretch fabrics. There are three types of stretch fabrics on the market:

a) There are fabrics woven with Spandex filament yarns commonly known as Lycra (a Dupont trademark).

Fabrics produced with this yarn have the following characteristics:

1.     This type of fabric has more expandability than chemical or mechanical stretch.

2.     Spandex yarn cannot be submitted to high temperatures because it will melt and as a consequence, these fabrics are a bit rough on the hand. Microfibers made of these yarns have to be submitted to a very complex system of light sanding to achieve the caress finish for which they are so well known.

3.     The stretch factor is permanent for the life of the fabric.

b) Chemical stretch is obtained with the help of two chemical agents that work on the protein of the wool and attack the fiber, opening molecular rings and crinkling the yarn. Obviously, this system can only be used for wool fabrics.

This elasticity is increased with additional mechanical operations. The following are the characteristics of this system:

1.     You can achieve a luxurious finish as high temperatures can be used in the finishing of the fabrics, giving them a sophisticated and better handle of finer wools.

2. The stretch factor is permanent for the life of the fabric.

MECHANICAL STRETCH

c) Mechanical stretch is a simple process by which the fabric is woven to a wider width and in the finishing, the fabric is shrunk creating a stretch when pulled. These are fabrics that utilize their memory and bounce back to their original state.

These fabrics do not stretch for the life of the garment as they lose this characteristic after several washings or dry cleanings. Comfort-"EZE" PANTS

In order for Ballin to develop Comfort- "EZE", our product development department worked for over two and a half years with different suppliers. The producers of fusible materials for the waistband, pockets and leg linings worked very closely with our team to achieve the exact amount of stretch homogenous with the fabrics for them to stretch equally. Different chemicals and temperatures were used in the fusibles until the final product was developed.

Literally hundreds of sewing tests were done in order to stabilize all elements and arrive at the perfect marriage between fabrics and trimmings.

Expandable fabrics are placed on a table and left to rest overnight to let them relax. The computer can then issue a marker and cut the goods. With all these elements in place, a superior quality slack was created, without a puckering effect so common in these fabrics and with the perfect fit and appearance of a luxurious 100% wool or a sophisticated microfiber trouser.
